Another milestone, another day...Time to refine our work!

I work hard to make the most of the little time I have in daily life. I work 60+ hours a week and spend my time off sleeping, or spending time with my son. Right now I have a spare few minutes before bed to post this, while I drink my Samuel Adams Blackberry Witbier. I have treated myself to this beer because of my weigh in at 293 today at the dentist. I am excited that I have been losing weight, but now it is going to get harder. As the weight drops, I will be burning less calories per day in normal and exercise activity. Before, it took 6800 calories per day to maintain my weight as a full time chef at 12 hours per day, walks to and form work, and daily activity. That number will continue to drop. My weight loss thus far has relied on eating less overall, and working myself to an early grave. Now to keep the gains speeding along, I know I have to refine my habits. Longer walks, more cardio, and eating strategically. Not just three times per day, but 5-6 on smaller amounts to keep my metabolism high. More water, more healthy eating more of everything. Its not enough now to get to 175 in a year, it needs to happen sooner. I have come to far to slow down.

I am going to ask my DM friends for advice and eating tips and recipes. Time to make this happen. I have come along way, and still have a long way to go. But I am determined to get it done. Any advice anyone has would be appreciated. Until the next weigh in, Ill keep pushing, and keep slimming down.

  1. They weighed you at the dentist?

Do you keep a food journal/log? That's what's really helping me. I use Myfitnesspal.com, it's super user friendly and free :)

  2. At least 30 minutes a day of exercise, walking isn't going to cut it. It's better than driving but not a huge calorie burner. Try adding a bit of running and really get your heart rate up.

I don't believe in dieting. You aren't dieting, you're finding a lifestyle that you can live with the rest of your life. I lost weight by determining what the calorie intake was that I needed to maintain the size I wanted to be and eating that number of calories. I made my food choices based on high quality fruits and vegetables and limited carbs and meats. Lots of ice water to flush toxins helps.

  3. Great Work JR! You are absolutely right-the more weight you lose the harder it is. I have lost 60 pounds and kept it off for 3 years. There is still more to go but it is fighting me to stay on! I started to run. bottom line. It was so hard at first but I really liked it and I kept going at it. You will melt away but start off very slow and use a run/walk program to get started. You don't want to get injured. Get some decent and supportive running shoes and give it a try. One of the snacks I still eat is almonds. If I was hungry-I would eat about 10 of them. Cheese strings are great to curb the hunger as well. Also-look into KAshi cereal products-you can find most that are high in protein and fibre and they taste pretty good. I also really like a smoothie made from frozen blueberries or strawberries/low sugar yogurt, scoop of protein powder and some OJ to make it smooth-blend it together and it tastes great! Also-try not to buy into that low fat junk at the supermarket-read the labels-the stuff won't help and is typically high in sugar to hide the lack of taste and texture.
Good luck and I look forward to hearing more about your progress-now go get some shoes! Becky M.
